Samsung Galaxy A50 Review

Samsung completely lost its grip over the budget market in the past few years as Chinese rivals, most notably Xiaomi, swooped in. These companies continue to release model after model with each new generation bringing even more incredible features and specifications to every price point.

Finally, Samsung has decided to strike back its new M-Series and A-Series. In the last one month, the company has launched six new low-cost models, which have substantial variants, which attack ten key price points between the rupees. 7,990 and Rs. 22,990

We liked most of what we saw in the Galaxy M10 90 7,990 (review) and the Galaxy M20 ₹12999 (review). As the first two models of this new wave, the speed has been set with many hot features in these phones, which include water screen noch, large amounts of RAM and storage, many cameras and big batteries.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Samsung Galaxy A50 is priced starting at Rs. 19,990 in India
  • It features an in-display fingerprint sensor and three rear cameras
  • The Galaxy A50 runs Android 9 with the new Samsung One UI

Now, with the M-series starting at the lower price in the market, the newly-abled A-series overlaps. 8,490 This was the second place for pre-premium sub-brand Galaxy S and Note lines, usually in RS. Range from 20,000 to 40,000.

The recently announced Galaxy A10, Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50, Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30 are similar, but at each level, they add some utilities and premium features on which the buyer idea can do.

Today, we are reviewing the new top-of-the-line Samsung Galaxy A50. It promises a number of features which can tempt buyers, which include an in-display fingerprint sensor and three rear cameras, but at a higher cost than any of the existing M-series models. let's get started.

Samsung Galaxy A50 design

The highlight of the Galaxy A50 is its 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen. This Galaxy A30 and the same size and panel type have been used on the recently launched Galaxy M30. In the three models, there is also the same scoop-shaped Infinity-U.Nouch.

Samsung has done well to try and trim the boundaries around the screen, and the goal corners and the 91.6 percent screen-to-body ratio are a lot in keeping with current trends. There is still a noticeable chin, but this look is quite slim for a relatively low cost phone - Galaxy A50 makes the recently released Galaxy A9 (review) as old-school.

An exclusive feature for the Galaxy A50 is the in-display fingerprint sensor. Unfortunately, this is not the same ultrasonic sensor, which the company used in the flagship Galaxy S10 900 66,900 and Galaxy S10 + (review), but there is a lot of expectation at this price point. This is something that users would like to pretend and this may be a big selling point in the price segment, but we will talk about this later in this review.

Samsung has not said that the rear of this phone is made up of material, but it looks like a plastic or polycarbonate. The panel decreases slightly to meet the metal rim and does not sharpen anywhere. There are three color options - black, white, and blue. A Coral Pink version shown in MWC 2019 has not been launched in India, at least not yet.

Our black review unit's rear panel was more like transparent gray with a transparent quality which refracts light in iridescent pattern. You will see it especially on the edges of the phone when you take it to a strong light.

Unfortunately the surface is very bright and therefore it smiles very much the moment you touch it. After using our review unit very carefully with our bundled plastic case for a few days, we still saw some small scratches.

The vertical vertical triple module standing in the upper left corner just slightly sticks out. This is a design touch that has been taken from the previous model, especially the Galaxy A7 (2018) (review).

There's an LED flash just below the cameras, and if you look very closely, you will see some unconscious Samsung logo and some regulatory textures on the rear of Galaxy A50.

The power and volume buttons on the right are reasonably accessible, and the USB Type-C port along with the 3.5mm headphone socket and the speaker grill downwards. Dual-SIM tray with its dredged MicroSD card slot is on the upper left.

Some buyers will be disappointed that there is no room for notification LED in front of this phone, but the super AMOLED panel always supports on-mode so that you can still check notifications and alerts at a glance.

By default, you have to tap the screen lightly to show this information, but you can always enable a true mode from within the settings app.

As far as the rest is, using the Galaxy A50 is quite easy and it does not feel heavy or thicker at all. It fits well in one hand and does not slip. Reaching all corners of the screen with a thumb is a little stretch, but it was not uncomfortable for us. We think that whoever buys this phone will be happy how he looks and how he feels.

Some of our readers of Galaxy M10 and M20 have criticized for their bare bones retail packages, and it seems Samsung has heard them. A slightly more premium Galaxy A50 retail box includes a headset and a plastic slip case in addition to SIM eject pin, 15W charger, and USB Type-C cable (later two, black, interestingly).

Samsung Galaxy A50 specifications and features

It is difficult to differentiate between models and variants of all the Galaxy M-Series and A-series. The Galaxy A50 has a 6.4-inch Full-HD + 1080x2340-pixel super AMOLED panel shared with some of our siblings, as we have explained, but its Octa-core Samsung Exynos 9610 SoC, Exynos 7904 Above is a cut. Use others.

In this chip, the four ARM Cortex-A73 and four Cortex A-53 CPU core 2.3GHz and 1.6GHz are running respectively to balance the processing power and battery efficiency with the modern ARM Mali-G72 MP2 GPU.

Samsung avoids this SoC image signal processor and supports deep learning algorithm for power features such as single camera depth sensing and face recognition.

There are two variants of the Galaxy A50, and the only difference between them is RAM. You can choose between 4GB and 6GB, but the storage is similar to 64GB between the two, at least in India for the options launched.

This is a bit surprising, especially considering that the low-cost Galaxy M30 has 128 GB options (and there is a difference of Rs 3,000 between the variants between the variants in both models).

Incidentally, 128 GB was listed as an option when the Galaxy A50 was unveiled in MWC 2019 for the first time, so other countries could still get better specs.

The 4000mAh battery is smaller than the Galaxy M30's 5000mAh unit. These factors can confuse buyers a bit. You also get Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, FM radio, LTE and VoLTE and normal sensors on both SIMs.

It is very interesting that the Galaxy M-Series Android 8.1 and Samsung's older experience are similar to the UI skin, but similarly the Galaxy A50 runs Android 9 with the new Forest UI.

This is good news, because users will not have to wait for unknown time to get a major update. During our review period, we found an update for Android security patches of February 2019.

A UI is usually an improvement in design, and it looks quite modern. Samsung says that it has focused on applicability on a large screen phone, but it means that it has reduced the information density and with the load of padding between elements, make text and icons bigger everywhere Have given.

Some things, such as the Quick Settings panel, are now oversized so that the icon is close to the bottom of the screen where your thumb is likely to be. It takes a little time to use it.

In some instances, it may feel that screen space is wasted, but on the other hand there are super useful touchs like back buttons in the Settings app that reach as soon as you get down, as if you scroll instead of anchor in the top-left corner Do the screen

We found that we were happy to increase the density of the icon grid for the Home screen and app drawer and lower the default text size. You can disable the app drawer and choose whether to open it with swipe or tap on an icon.

Can pull an optional swipe notification shade downward anywhere on the home screen. There are several customization options within the various sub-menus of Settings app that are well-digged to find.

Night mode is a dark theme, not a normal Blue Light filter (which still is). You can keep it all the time, schedule it or you can sync it for sunrise and sunset for each day.

You can run the Android navigation button again or hide them and use swipe gestures instead (though Android 9's swipable home button is not an option).

FaceWidgets is a lock screen module useful for things like music control, a calendar schedule overview and weather, and if you choose, they will always appear on-screen.

Some Samsung wallpapers are deliberately designed to cover the top notch of the camera at the top. Samsung's Themes App is one of the few who ask for permission before sending spam information to you. Loads of free and paid themes that you can download.

If you swipe inwards from either side of the screen using the edge of your palm, there are some simple hints along with screenshots. You can have message alerts appear as bubbles, and the app related to tapping them will open in a floating window so that you can see the whole thread while typing a response.

Google's digital welling feature for Android 9 is also supported, so that you can see detailed app usage statistics, Galaxy A50 can prompt when it's time for the night to air, and focusing on yourself Applying a lack of time on personal apps to help.

BixBy can be set to trigger with the help of long presses of the power button, should you choose to use it. There is also Samsung Pay Mini for UPI Money Transaction.

We had a huge problem with spam notifications and ads on the lock screen with the Galaxy M-Series. This is still an issue with the Galaxy A50, although the initial setup process gives you the option to disable "lock screen stories".

The default Samsung apps are still spam and now there are Amazon Shopping, many apps from Samsung, Microsoft Office and LinkedIn, and certainly Google's apps apart from Dailyhant.

Shortly after our device started, we were cheated to tap a notification, which asked us to complete the setup process. It comes from a background app called IronSource which secretly installs six unwanted and unnecessary apps - these calculators, mytunar radio and flashlight (already in the phone are these functions), HotSpotShield VPN, Sharechat and Candy Crush Saga .

Needless to say, even the dead-simple flashlight app showed many ads, including full screen interstitial which blocked a toggle button on the screen - its only function. This is a constant disappointment.

Samsung Galaxy A50 performance, battery life, and cameras

Samsung is promoting the Galaxy A50's Super AMOLED screen very much and it is really crisp, bright and vibrant. Black and dark colors are actually pop but without oversized Everything from UI to videos and games is very good. The Always-On Display feature is good, and you can set the schedule so that it does not bother you at night.

For sound quality, the single speaker of this phone can be very loud but not very clear. Music and voices are ringing in high volume, and when you can use it for topical video clips, do not expect to enjoy a full movie. The included headset is not very comfortable, and the big w-splitter hangs right below our right ear, tilt the long wire around the left side of our chin while tilting towards the left.

The sound is not very bad, but the high place is a little bit scary and there is no bass in it. Open Design gives a lot of background noise to hear and listen to what you are hearing for people around you. We will use more of our budget earphones.

In-display fingerprint sensor will be a big draw for a lot of people, but there is a downside in it. The recognition is quite slow, and often takes two seconds or more to unlock the phone itself, which is enough to be nervous.

Even when you are in standby you can actually unlock the phone, but it will take trial and error to know where to place your finger.

A single faucet will illuminate the place that you need to hit, which can actually save you some time. We do not have the problem with accuracy, but if you do not touch the sensor for a long time, the belief can fail.

There is also face recognition, which can be a lot faster. As soon as the phone is picked up, you can choose to activate the front camera. It's more fluid and you do not have to wait for a visual confirmation that it has worked.

Normal day-to-day use was fine, there was no hiccup or recession. Our review unit was version with 4 GB RAM and was happy, but you might want to spend the buck. 3,000 more for 6GB RAM variants if you think that you will hang this phone for many years.

There were ads to deal with some Samsung's apps and spam notifications, but beyond that, our time to use the Galaxy A50 was pleasant. We played PUBG Mobile and Asphalt 9: Legends were at their high settings and were not disappointed.

The Exynos 9610 processor is not setting any records but it is enabled for this price level. Benchmark tests showed the performance according to most of our current pickups for the best phones under RS. 20,000, although many of these options are low cost.

AnTuTu gave us a score of 145,408 and the results of the single-core and multi-score test of Geekchain were 1,719 and 5,586, respectively. 3DMark's sling shot was an extreme shot of 1,269, and we found 37fps and 22fps respectively in GFXBench's T-Rex and Manhattan trials respectively.

Battery life can easily spread for one and a half days with normal use. We made lots of photos and videos, a movie stream, played some games, and appeared on the web all day long. We started in the morning, and about 30 percent was saved in the night.

Our HD Video Loop Test lasted 14 hours, 59 minutes which is quite good. The included charger took us from zero to 11 percent in approximately 10 minutes and up to 30 percent in 30 minutes.

There are plenty of photography features in the Samsung Galaxy A50, 919,990, which appears with triple-camera modules on the rear. The primary camera has a 25-megapixel sensor and a f / 1.7 aperture;

The secondary camera is for wide shots and has an 8-megapixel sensor with 123-degree field of view and f / 2.2 aperture; And the third is a standard 5-megapixel depth sensor. The single front-facing camera has a 25-megapixel sensor and f / 2.0 aperture.

Samsung also offers live focus mode for Portrait, a 480fps 720p slow-motion video mode, hyper-lapse mode for timelapse video, AR emoji and intelligent visual optimization.

Pro mode is disappointing with metering, ISO, white balance and exposure compensation control. Before you start shooting the video, you can switch between standard and wide-angle cameras, but not while recording.

You can change the type of background blur in the portrait shots to the filtered filter effect by standard Bokeh, and even have fake Dolly-zoom effects so that you can exclude GIF. Sadly, it only separates the background and changes it in and out, without the specific perspective of the changing field at the speed of the camera's view. Edge Detection was great, but the background between toros and weapons of our subjects was not recognized.

It's easy to use the app and what we've seen over the last Samsung phone, including the Galaxy A9 (2018), is a lot more. It is well placed with useful control within reach.

You can choose whether the app remembers the mode you are using the last time, and if you are normally unattained, then enable the Floating Shutter button.

The Galaxy A50 supports high-efficiency HiIF and HEVC formats for photos and videos, but they are not enabled by default. Video recording with front and rear cameras only goes up to 2336x1080 (full-HD but expanded in width to match the aspect ratio of the phone's display).

We were happy with the pictures that Galaxy A50 had taken. It went in the day to overxposes the brightly lit parts of a frame, but most of our photos looked good with a lot of detail.

The wide-angle camera gives you a lot of flexibility, and in fact it is quite surprising that you can actually fit in a frame when standing in one place, but the quality is definitely low and the big distortion is The edges of the frame is not just limited

The performance at night was decent, but was not great. Photos may look good on your screen and posted online, but when they check the full size, really do not get caught. Due to the shutter being slightly open, some speed may be blurred. If there is enough light around, then close-up is very good at night.

Even when we were standing, the shooted videos were looking great, with no focus on hunting or wobbling, which influenced low-end phone cameras. In the day, the speed was crisp and the details were good. Wide-angle camera gives everything fish-eye effect and the video is a bit darker, but still smooth.

There is no official mention of video stabilization, but we found that the footage was still very useful. At night, things were very intelligent and there was more details in the video. The secondary camera created dark, spotty videos.

The front camera also has a live focus mode but without effect. Even after taking a shot you can change the blur intensity, but the edge detection is not good. The default beautification makes shots quite artificial, and many taps are required to close it.

Verdict

Unfortunately, for Samsung, with the initial price of Galaxy A50 bucks. The 19,990 match is from Xiaomi's Poco F1 (review) which has a top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor.

Obviously the better option of phone if you are a gamer or want the easiest experience, but it does not have three rear cameras or a modern all-screen design.

As Samsung is aggressive, it has been launched by the new Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 SoC, 48-megapixel primary camera, Gorilla Glass 5, and other powerful features.

Redmi note 7 Pro starts at Rs. 13,999 and even higher end versions in RS. 16,999 (with 128 GB of storage) Samsung dramatically underscores.

Another major competitor of the Samsung Galaxy A50 will have its own Galaxy M30, which has a single screen and a large battery, but a weak processor, standard fingerprint sensor and a less attractive rear panel. If you are not talking too much about camera quality, the Galaxy M30 starts at Rs. 5,000 less

Even with these options in the market, we think many people will find the Galaxy A50 seriously enough to think seriously. It has all the features of the present day that you want to show, and there is no big problem.

We think there is scope for improvement with cameras and software, but overall, Samsung is actually showing that it knows how to get back the fight.
