As the budget is playing the brand specification war of the smartphone segment, the competition is getting faded. Phone manufacturers are offering top-of-the-line hardware not only in some parts of the cost but also phones with a genuine style statement.
Oppo is among those who, together with an attractive design, has been consistent in producing phones with unique features and good hardware. Design and Display
Oppo A5s has shared DNA of some of the company's latest devices, including some names like Oppo F9 Pro, Oppo A7, and Oppo K1. The device has a contemporary look, and edge-to-edge performance with a small notch and large screen-to-body ratio.Oppo A5s Review |
The frame of the phone is made of metal. While smooth shiny rear panels look good, it suffers from fingerprints and smear. The handset may look great in black, but the Oppo can offer a shield design option as it is the current trend.
Still, the accent of sleeping around the horizontal double-rear camera setup and the fingerprint sensor adds flares to it. Unlike circular, there is an oval shaped fingerprint sensor, which is very high. This can be an issue for many because it is slightly more to reach.
For display, Oppo A5s has a 6.2-inch HD + display with an aspect ratio of 19: 9. The display provides vivid colors, and the brightness level is quite decent. We did not have any issues during external visibility.

The front panel is covered with Gorilla Glass 3 layer. Some people may find a problem with the lack of options to hide the notch, but the Waterdrop design is quite unexpected.
Performance, software
The Oppo A5s is powered by a MediaTek Helio P35 SoC, which is currently giving power to the Honor A8 Pro and Vivo Y17 smartphones.Oppo A5s Review |
Oppo A5s runs normal and social media apps fairly. However, we saw a slight interval while switching between apps. There was also a noticeable interval in launching some apps.
The handset is enough to watch binge, and it has done well with very casual games. In addition, Face Unlock works fine, and a fingerprint sensor is very good.
Oppo A5S, which is OSO's Custom OS, which is ColorOS 5.2. It is based on the dated Android 8.1, which is disappointing. But, you also get lots of shortcuts, gestures, and features.

Smart sidebar, game space, multi-screen, kid space, a bunch of different security options and more. The ColorOS in-depth notification of Oppo also provides notification permission and management system options, which is very good.
Great battery life
The Oppo A5s offers a great battery life. It is fueled by a big 4,230mAh. With general usage, which includes slight messaging, browsing, a bit of binge-watching and casual gaming, the handset managed to deliver more than one and a half days of battery life, without running out of juice.Oppo A5s Review |
Camera performance
In Oppo A5s, a 13-megapixel primary sensor with f / 2.2 aperture and the 2-megapixel sensor is provided with f / 2.4 aperture, which aids both sensings as well as 2x zooms. Everything is good in daylight with good enough details.Oppo A5s Review |
Macros looked quite decent with punchy colors and enough details. For portrait shots, edge detection is not bad. Overall, you can get decent shots, which you can confidently share through your social media account.
But do not try to analyze the pictures in depth, because you will see softness, minimal detail and color reproduction.
During low light, the camera fights a bit and you get passive shots. At night, the focusing speed falls even more and it takes time to give the final output. The front has an 8-megapixel selfie camera with f / 2.0 lens.

Under the sunlight, good selfies can be taken. But, the AI betting feature is very aggressive, and we ended up with poor skin soft effects and white skin tone, resulting in artificial shots. In addition, edge detection of Front Portrait mode does not work well.
