The phone is nothing but a shameless black box, but its name and brand name branding on it. Inside, we greet specific accessories like USB Type-C Headset, Data Cable, Charger, SIM Ejection Tool, 3.5mm Adapter from Type-C, and for some instructions.Mate 20 Pro looks incredible from the moment when you pick it up. The exposed metal frame with sides provides very good rigidity, and the glass front and back toner on the sides blend seamlessly with metal so that you can barely feel any edges.
In fact, the design reminds Samsung of Galaxy S9 (review) and Galaxy S9 + ₹ 48,900 (review).

Huawei Mate 20 Pro comes in two new colors, except for Pink Gold and the classic Twilight shed. One of them is Emerald Green, which we have.
It offers a new-hyper-optical pattern on the glass, which is said to be a better hold and fewer fingerprints. If you run a fingernail with the body then the right diagonal strips can be felt, and this is definitely less slippery in hand compared to plain glass.

Mate 20 Pro features an in-display fingerprint sensor, which is placed in the center of the display below.
It is quite ergonomic, because your thumbs easily reach the sensor, without reaching it for it. It works quite well, though we have encountered some examples when there was some difficulty in identifying our fingerprint.
Like all in-display sensors, there is a slight but understandable interval before reading your fingerprint.
When you lift the phone, a small fingerprint icon appears, which tells you where your finger is placed. When you recognize it, you get a little animation.
In addition to unlocking the phone, you can use your registered fingerprint to access locked apps and a personal space. You can also program a specific fingerprint to launch the Petty App directly from the lock screen.
Volume and power buttons are placed on the right side of the phone, and they feel a good click. We also like the red color in contrast to the power button, which adds to the style of the phone.
At the top, we have an IR emitter to control infrared electronics, while at the lower part we have a USB Type-C port and a dual nano-SIM tray. The phone supports Dual 4G with VoLTE, which is good.
Mate 20 Pro also supports Huawei's custom NM card format for storage expansion, which is a small version of MicroSD standard and can fit into another SIM slot.
The company unveiled this format in the Global launch of Mate 20 Pro, and promised capacity up to 256GB. However, we do not have any details about when it will be available or the cost of the cards.
The phone does not have a headphone socket, but the speaker grill is also missing. This is because Huawei actually uses the USB Type-C port as an outlet for sound.
The disadvantage of this solution is that when you are charging the phone, the sound is lost, but it was not a major disadvantage for us.
Mate 20 Pro also uses earpieces for audio playback, giving you a stereo effect. Although it is not fully balanced, because the amount of earpiece is less than the main speaker.

Blocking the earpiece does not really make any difference to the sound. Dolby Atmos is enabled by default and can not be turned off while using the speaker.
You can set it to auto-optimized sound based on the content being played, or manually choose between film and music presets. With Atmos-encoded video, the surrounding effect is not very noticeable while playing audio from the speaker, but headphones give better results.
Finally, we come behind the phone, with three camera sensors and a dual-LED flash in a specific four-point layout.
The camera module does not flush with the rest of the body, which causes a slight collision. In the week we used this phone, it did not get any scratch.

Qualcomm also just announced Snapdragon 855 processor, which could stop displaying difference in 2019 after making its way into the phone. But as we always say, benchmark numbers should be seen only as display guidelines, not metrics for the actual day. day use.

In addition to the new hardware, Mate 20 Pro is also one of the first devices to get Huawei's new EMUI 9.0 skin, which is based on Android 9 Pie.
Visually, it looks similar to previous iterations, and many customization settings are similar. Huawei has made a few new additions, some of which are specific to the Indian market.
The first one is strict integration for local digital wallets such as Paytm, as we had previously mentioned, can be accessed directly from the lock screen.

HiVision is the answer to Huwai for Google lens and Bixby Vision. It can be accessed via the camera app or on any home screen from the Universal Search field.

It can also read the QR code, and has a translation option that lets you auto-translate text in real-time. It overlays the translated text on the object itself, and it can be difficult to read many times.
Local languages have not been supported so far, so this feature is not particularly useful in India.
According to Huawei, the main focus of EMUI 9.0 is to "keep things clean and accessible", and to a lesser extent, it has made good on that promise.
This is based on Android 9 Pie, which is good but our unit was still slightly older than the October 2018 Android security patches.
The interface is flurry and it's very easy to see what you're seeing in the Settings app. You can always look for something if you need to find it quickly. EMUI is a single-layered interface by default, but this app can be converted into a drawer style.

EMUI 9.0 is an updated version of Huawei's GPU Turbo feature, which promises better performance in low touch input latency and supported games.
Some new titles have been added, including NBA 2K18, Arena of Valor, and Survival Rule. The new App Assistance menu allows you to block incoming notifications and enable "Game Acceleration", for titles which are not supported by GPU Turbo.
The list of supported games is still limited, and in our experience, we have not seen any major visual differences among some supported people like PUBG Mobile.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro does not come with lots of preinstalled apps. Apart from the general suspects of Huawei, our unit had Facebook Messenger, Netflix and Camera 360. These are not permanent, so you can uninstall them if you wish.
Huawei Mate 20 Pro performance, cameras, and battery life
In day-to-day use, the Mate 20 Pro works very well. At roughly 189g, this is heavy and it is worth noting with the use of one hand.There is a hint in EMUI that shrinks the size of the entire UI, so everything is within the reach of a thumb. Even when looking out in the sun, the display is crispy and shiny, and the touch response is the best. The oleophobic coating on the display does not attract many fingerprints and it is easy to keep it clean.
The new Kirin 980 SoC handles multitasking and heavy apps, especially games, easily. We managed to get smooth framerates in PUBG mobile, set up get HDR and fr ultra high 'ferret settings with graphics.

With long gaming the phone gets a bit hot, but it does not feel uncomfortable.
One feature we have not yet mentioned is 3D face recognition, which is surprisingly quick. It used to work very light in the event of a lot of lighting, including pitch darkness.
Thanks to the combination of a dot projector, IR camera and Flood Illuminator. It works even when you are wearing sunglasses, and you can force the camera to unlock the phone only if your eyes are open.

This phone shoot gives standard, wide-angle and telephoto image - which is a very useful combination in our opinion. Upon an anti-clockwise, we first have a 40-megapixel sensor with a f / 1.8 aperture.

We found the latter feature on P20 Pro a little offensive, but here, it was not so bad. It automatically detects objects and scenes and will switch mode or adjust the colors accordingly.
The sky looks dull and the grass is green, but we have never seen the shots artificial. Point a front or rear camera to a person, and the app automatically turns into portrait mode.
The latter works well but there is no alternative to adjusting the blur before or after you take the shot.
In landscape shots, details of distant objects were handled well, with pleasing colors and good dynamic range. If you zoom out, the app switches to a 20-megapixel wide-angle camera, which allows you to capture any view more in a frame.
While shooting with this sensor some things to note are that it does not always correct the white balance, and the photos shot in low light lack the brightness and level of detail because they have a primary sensor is.
However, this is very useful for shooting 'super macros'. With AI Master, point to the camera very close to any subject, and the wide-angle camera is activated automatically, to make you distance, you set a very short distance.

To get a 5x joint zoom, Mate 20 Pro does a digital zoom using telephoto sensor. Once again, the Mate 20 Pro provides the best level of detail with a little noise and better white balance compared to the competition.
In less light, the Mate 20 Pro keeps us going. The glitter was excellent, there was also very visible expansion in distant objects, and exposure with many light sources in one frame was also well balanced.
We will not recommend using portrait mode in low light, even if it is to detect the right side, as a result the image can be very dark. This is also true for people as well as things.
The main camera reproduces the excellent depth of field for its large aperture, so we just finished using it most often. Focusing speed was as good as the low light due to laser autofocus.
While shooting Landscape shots in low light, Master AI will automatically turn into Night mode. This theory is similar to the night site on pixel 3XL, but the mechanics are slightly different.
With Mate 20 Pro, the shutter is actually kept open for three to four seconds (depending on how black your subject is), which results in fading shots many times because our hands naturally Slightly move. When compared to side, Mate 20 Pro manages impressive expansions and colors. At Pixel 3 XL some textures and edges appear to be slightly dentate compared to the night site, but still it was not bad.
The 24 megapixel selfie camera has f / 2.0 aperture. In daylight, there were good expansions and colors in pictures, and during the shooting against direct sunlight, HDR modes improved, iPhone Xs and Pixel 3XL fail to do something. In portrait mode, you can choose between different Bokeh patterns and add some interesting light effects.
You can also record some gimmicky animojis called 3D Qmoji. The dot projector can be used to create an animated avatar of an object using a different 3D Live Maker app.
We tried it but actually did not do this work. In low light, the selfie camera does not really affect us. Images were less noisy than images taken with the iPhone Xs, and there was lack of sharpness and clarity of pixel 3XL.
Mate 20 can shoot video up to 4K at 30fps, in which there is no obstacle on the length of the clip. Regrettably, 4K is not supported at 60fps.
The quality of the image was good in the daylight and the stabilization was also solid, but the ob bubble effect was noticeable from the edges of the frame.
In 1080p, this issue was not noticeable and it was the best balance of quality and stabilization. Wide-angle sensor is not ideal for video, because when you are on the go, there is a jittery effect in the footage. According to our liking, the colors were quite warm.

You can enable special effects like AI color, which only keeps human subjects in color when turning monochrome to other subjects.

In our battery loop test, we found a 14 hour and 18 minute runtime, which is very good. Despite its generous 4,200mAh capacity, this battery is also quick to go up with the bundled charger.
Mate 20 Pro has a feature called Super Charge, which makes slow dash charging on OnePlus Phone. We were able to carry the battery from zero to 96 percent in just one hour, which is absolutely crazy.
This phone also supports 15W Fast Wireless Charging using Huawei's own dock. Like other pixel stand, with other Qi wireless chargers, it took more than three and a half hours to fully charge Mate 20 Pro.
One of the unique features of this phone is the ability to work as a wireless charger. After flipping a switch in the battery settings, you just place any compatible device behind this phone, and Mate 20 Pro will start charging it.
We tried this with Pixel 3 XL and iPhone XS, and it worked fine. If Mate 20 Pro does not detect any charging device for a minute, it automatically closes this feature.
Verdict
The Mate 20 Pro is Huawei's best and strongest offering yet, and gives users literally everything they could possibly want from a flagship Android phone right now.That Rs. 69,990 price tag doesn't seem too bad when you consider the kind of features and performance it offers, compared to much more expensive phones such as the Google Pixel 3 XL and the iPhone XS.
Unless you absolutely need the stylus of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 ₹ 58,900 (Review), we suggest that you throw in a few thousand rupees more and get the Huawei Mate 20 Pro instead, for its better all-round performance.
Between this phone and the Google Pixel 3 (Review), which costs about Rs. 71,000 in the market, the Mate 20 Pro is the obvious choice in our books.
Sure, the Pixel 3 is easier to handle, but the Mate 20 Pro offers double the storage and is simply a much better package overall.
If we could change a few things, we would have kept a physical fingerprint sensor, as the in-display one isn't always consistent. Other than this, it's really hard to find fault with the Mate 20 Pro.
It has excellent battery life, good software, solid app and gaming performance, and an impressive set of cameras.
If you're one of the few still holding out to upgrade to a new flagship phone, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro comes closest in delivering the complete package.
