Xiaomi Redmi 7 Review
It's been more than seven months since the launch of the Redmi 6 series in India, but it's a lifetime in the smartphone world. New features such as Waterdrop Knoch and Gradient Design have become popular, and competitors are still not standing.

The newly announced Redmi 7 is a workhorse all-rounder that should appeal to anyone. It seems that almost all the things that the buyer wants, and want to concentrate on the overall value rather than any major feature.
Interestingly, Xiaomi has not launched the partner models of Redmi 7 Pro or Redmi 7A - at least not yet. In this review, we are focusing on Redmi 7, and we are going to see whether Xiaomi has been able to deliver enough delivery to keep ahead of Samsung, Honor, Reality and other competitors.

Many of Xiaomi's previous phones have looked very similar, but the Redmi 7 breaks the mold. While not everyone will like it, the overall effect is a bit subtle compared to some other designs we've seen recently. If you do not like the finish, you can use the dark transparent plastic cover coming in the box.
Phones are getting bigger, and Redmi 7 is no exception. Its 6.26-inch screen is much larger than the 5.45-inch Redmi 6, but it's not just due to slimmers. Redmi 7 is bigger than all of its predecessors in all dimensions and is also heavy.
In 180g and 8.47 mm thickness, this phone is quite a handful, and when you roam, you will feel it lacking in your pocket. It is not easy to reach all corners of the screen with just thumb.
With this generation, even the low priced Redmi 7 gets a modern "dot" position, though we have to say that if you are looking for a limitless screen, then this phone is suited to that statement Is not there. The good news is that Xiaomi has used Gorilla Glass 5 for display, which will give you some peace.
The back part of this phone is made of molded plastic, which Xiaomi says "has finished with a nano-spray". Our plain black review unit was shiny and highly reflective and there was no noticeable texture in it.
Sadly, at this moment, we had very little fingerprints with fingerprints and smoothes at the moment of unboxing this phone. We also sawdust and small fibers stuck backward. It is impossible to see Redmi 7 again. We have seen major scratches and shocks after dealing with caution for less than a week.
The edges where the bright rear panel matte meets the plastic frame are not completely smooth and this phone is a bit weird to use. Thankfully, the fingerprint sensor on the rear and the power and volume buttons on the right are within easy reach.
The front camera is a very thin earpiece right above the Nokia, and the sensors are hidden. At the bottom of the screen, there is a small white LED in the chin when the phone is charging and the battery stops when it is full. The rear dual-camera module sticks out just a little and does not come in the way of anything.
At the top of this phone, you will find a 3.5mm headset socket and an infrared emitter to control the devices. In the left hand, a single tray can have two nano-sim as well as a MicroSD card, which is always good to see.
Of the two grilles on the bottom, only one is actually a speaker. We might have liked the USB Type-C port, but we can not complain about the use of Micro-USB standard at this price, and at least many people will be able to recycle the old cable.
Everyone will not like plastic body and color gradients, or the fact that this phone is rather heavy and supernatural. If you prefer big phones, then you will find Redmi 7 much more attractive than its predecessors at that price.
Redmi 7 specifications and software
There is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC in the heart of the new Redmi 7, which not only improves on MediaTek Helio P22 of Redmi 6 but also Snapdragon 625 in Redmi 6 Pro ₹ 8,999 (review). In it, Qualcomm's eight Kryo 250 CPU core is running at 1.8GHz, and the Adreno 506 graphics are integrated. |

It does not matter to us very much. If you are Rs. 1,000 more, you can buy Redmi Note 7 (review) instead. It is also a small step in comparison to Redmi 6, which has 3 GB RAM, which can be liked by 3GB RAM invariant and priced at 32GB for 64GB or 64GB of the same price. 1,500 more
The 6.26-inch screen has a resolution of 720x1520 and aspect ratio 19: 9. Xiaomi says that you get 84 percent of NTSC color gamma, which is good for low price phones.
There is a 4000mAh battery that is bigger than 3000mAh on Redmi 6, and while Qualcomm's quick charge is not explicitly supported, the bundled charger is rated at 10W.
Redmi 7 supports 4G and VoLTE on both sims, as well as single-band Wi-Fi 802.11n, Bluetooth 4.2 and GPS. There is an electronic compass plus general accelerometer and ambient light sensor, but there is no gyroscope. Our Diagnostics showed that this phone supports Widewine L3 DRM, not L1 for full-HD video streaming.
Our review unit was running MIUI 10.2 at the top of the Android 9 pie. During the initial setup process, there is an option to disable "Wallpaper Carousel" stories on the lock screen, which may contain some advertisements and sponsored content.
Each time you unlock your phone, you will see a different item. Interestingly, this is exactly the same platform that we have faced on Samsung's latest phone. It is powered by a third-party app called Glance.
While reviewing Samsung Galaxy M20 10,990 (review), we saw low-blunt advertisements and snippets of better designs, but it's still annoying. When disabled, there is a permanent icon on the lock screen which leads you to an option to turn it back on.
MIUI does not give you the option of app drawer so all icons are on the home screen. If you swipe from the first home screen to the right, you will come to a page called App Vault, which has different panels, including shortcuts for specific tasks with some apps.
There are also "Recommended apps", competition, and app integration ads. The MIUI Task Switcher has a tiled layout which is really quite useful.
The second space feature is a separate profile for the private app and data, which you can always delete and reset. Dual apps allow you to run two instances of any app, not just messenger.
We saw that when installing any app from the Google Play store, an "App Checker" screen will pop up with an advertisement. The default phasosotype keyboard provides loads of ASCII text effects, emoji, gif, stickers, and themes. There are a Mi Apps Store and many first-party applications, and as we have seen before, many of them have advertisements.
Music app lets you stream songs of commotion without any account setup process. There are virus protection scanners and some privacy tools in the name of security, but for some reason, it also includes "Game Speed Booster" and battery and storage control, which are usually in the Settings app. Of course, there are ads everywhere with a full-screen interstitial.

We received 3GB RAM version of Redmi 7 for review so our experience can be better than those who buy base variants, which are definitely more economical. In addition to advertisements throughout MIUI, we felt easy to use Redmi 7, but little bugs. |

A rare but strange issue was that information sometimes disappears in less than a second, making them impossible to read.
The screen is slightly reflective, but in terms of quality is decent. This large, video and game with a screen looks great, but the text is just a bit fuzzy. Colors and viewing angles are fine, but the ease of the sun was not very good.
We were impressed by the speaker, who could pull out the loud sound without distortion. It is great for voice in video and music, but certainly, there is not too much bass or prosperity for sound. As is standard for Xiaomi, no headset is included.
Our benchmark showed big performance improvement compared to the Redmi 6 series. AnTuTu gave us 103,574 points and the single-core and multi-core score of Geekchain was 1,247 and 4,333, respectively.
Redmi 7 achieved 511 points in 3DMark's slingshot Extreme Test and 14,458 points in Ice Storm Unlimited. GFXBench's T-Rex and Manhattan 3.1 tests ran at 36fps and 14fps, respectively.
Asphalt 9: Legends have shown incompatibility with this phone in the Google Play Store so we could not test it. PUBG Mobile ran fine on medium presets by default. We notice the upper part of the phone slightly warm after some rounds.
The 4000mAh battery in this phone has been very effective for 17 hours, 9 minutes in our HD Video Loop Test. With casual use, which includes a lot of web surfing and photography, gaming and video streaming, we were able to build it in a whole day and still have about 30 percent remaining in the night.
Redmi 7 has a 12-megapixel f / 2.2 primary rear camera with a depth of 2-megapixel depth sensor. It does not have an extra zoom or wide-angle lens, but vanishes AI for app sight detection and automatic adjusting camera settings.
In addition to normal pro and portrait modes, there are menus with additional options in photo and video mode, including tilt-shift, beauty, group selfie, time-lapse and Google lens.
You can take a burst by tapping and holding the shutter button, and even there is a setting to choose between average, centrally weighted and spot metering.
We liked how our photo samples appear. The shots we took under the bright sunlight contained sharp focus and subtle detail within the focused area, though some seemed to be far less than a few feet away. Redmi 7 has handled well with shadows in shots along with bright light, but preferred a bit more vividness and punch for the colors.
We were pleasantly surprised to see how low-light shots were out, and even colors were also relatively well preserved. However, there was a lot of noise and when we got up, these pictures really did not look good. There are lots of motion blur and you can hope to over-expose the bright areas due to the slow shutter speed.

Videos can be recorded at 1080p 60fps and you can choose between more widely compatible H.264 and more efficient H.265 codecs. The clips we recorded were looking a little sluggish and seemed a lot of shocks.
The details were poor in the full-HD video recorded at night. Beautification is automatically applied when using an 8-megapixel f / 2.0 front camera, and it is very aggressive.
Verdict
Xiaomi has done a lot to improve the Redmi series, and the new Redmi 7 offers better features and specifications as well as more up-to-date looks than the Redmi 6.There are a few steps backward though – we don't like the reduction in RAM on the base model and lack of a 64GB storage variant.
The Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Y3 both start at Rs. 9,999 — Rs. 1,000 more than the top-end Redmi 7 — and it would be very tempting to choose either of those models for the improvements they offer.
As for this phone's competition, we have the Realme 3 ₹ 9,999 (Review), Samsung Galaxy M10 ₹ 7,990 (Review), and Asus Zenfone Max M2 (Review) or ZenFone Max Pro M1 ₹ 11,490 (Review).
Xiaomi does seem to have an advantage in terms of features and specifications overall at its price. However, the software experience, particularly all the advertising, is likely to put a lot of people off.
