Within a few months after launching its flagship Mate 20 Pro in India, Huawei says that he has left behind himself with the new P30 Pro.
Many companies launch many top-end phones in a year, and some, like Huawei, are optional among product lines that target a slightly different set of buyers.
While Mate 20 Pro is an all-rounder emphasizing design and processing power, Huawei's P-series is all about photography. With this launch, Chinese veterans have introduced a 5X optical zoom camera and a new type of sensor in a direct challenge to Apple's best offerings.
We are able to spend some time with Huawei P30 Pro Unit ahead of our official launch, and here are our first impressions.
In addition to its cameras, the Huawei P30 Pro has a lot to boast in. The device looks very good, sandwiching a thin metal frame, with glass on the front and back.
The quality of construction is at the top and we can hardly feel the seam. Huawei says everything about this phone, ranging from colors to alert sounds, has been inspired by nature.
The company has shown four color variants internationally, which are for representing different times of day and night. Oddly, it seems that only Aurora and Breathing Crystal options are coming in India; Not even plain black
Our Aurora unit is definitely drawing attention with its color-shifting blue and purple gradient rear and bright blue frame, but we think some people would prefer the more understanding option.
At the front of this phone we have a 6.47-inch OLED screen, with a small 'Dewdorp' nocth at the top. There is no earpiece - Instead, the top of the screen vibrates to generate the sound.
It also has an in-display fingerprint sensor, which Huawei says has been improved in comparison to the previous model. These are two things that we have to check in detail in our full review.
The screen on Huawei P30 Pro is HDR-enabled and it is said that it supports the extended DCI-P3 color gamma. It certainly seemed to us fast and vibrant in our initial experience with the device.
This Huawei P30 Pro is big and slightly supernatural. Apart from this, it looks a bit superficial, and while holding it to take photos due to curved glass sides, we were a bit skeptical about leaving it.
However, it is not very difficult to catch P30 Pro. Rear certainly raises a lot of smears and smoothes, you have to notice them due to the continuous change of colors.
The highlight of the P30 Pro is definitely the camera setup on the rear, which has already broken DxOMark's record. There are some vertical straps with three cameras.
Starting from the top we have a 20-megapixel wide-angle camera, a main 40-megapixel camera, and then a 5x telephoto periscope camera below it.
Huawei says that the actual lens system is excluded horizontally in the width of the phone, and the prism bends in the light from 90 degrees to capture the shots.
There is a time-of-flight depth sensor on the right side of the module and a dual-LED flash over it.
All four rear cameras feature Leica Optics. The main camera has f / 1.6 aperture, OIS and a new type of sensor called Huawei SuperSpectrum.
It is designed with RYYB instead of the RGB filter, which is believed to be able to capture 40 percent more light. We will see what it means for night photography at our full review.
Zoom camera on Huawei P30 Pro is said to be capable of 5x optical zoom, 10X "hybrid" zoom and 50X digital zoom - that also with optical stabilization.
This smartphone can be a game-changer for cameras, and we are taking full advantage of this range when we look at the Huawei P30 Pro cameras as part of their in-depth review process.
For standard specifications, we have Huawei's own top-end Kirin 980 processor with eight total core of three different types for optimum energy efficiency.
There are 8GB of RAM and 128GB, 256GB and 512GB storage options internationally. It may be that Huawei did not launch all these options in India.
Huawei P30 Pro has a 4200mAh battery, and you get a 40W supercharger charger in the box with this phone. 15W wireless quick charging is supported, and you can send electricity to other devices wirelessly using the 2.5W reverse charging feature.
With Huawei P30 Pro, you get 4G LTE on Dual-Band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5, GPS on two bands, NFC and of course both sim. However, thanks to Hybrid Dual-SIM design, if you want storage expansion, then you have to discard the second nano-SIM.
Instead of the standard MicroSD card, the P30 Pro can only use Huawei's proprietary Nano memory card format. There is also a 3.5 mm audio jack.
Huawei's new EMUI 9.1 skin runs on top of Android 9 Pie and offers more space-out icon grids with new designs everywhere. Normal performance was great when walking through the UI and some preinstalled apps, and P30 Pro seemed to be very snappy in a short span of time with us.
Under the hood, Huawei thanks for a new file system and software tweak that includes GPU Turbo 3.0 for games.
We will be fully reviewing the Huawei P30 Pro here on gadgets 360, in which we will check the camera's cameras as well as its normal performance, battery life, software, build quality and more. more.
